2020 saw first-timers Smithers Brewing win the Fan Favourite award. Smithers’ London Fog Dark Mild Ale, a nitro tapped brew, was the talk of the festival and deserved the honour. As Hoptometrydude aptly described it, “Gorgeous medium-amber body. Toffee-ish malt base. Mega Earl Grey tea + vanilla flavour. Lactose balance for mouthfeel. Great aroma + taste!” WLCBF attendees agreed!

Lighthouse Brewing from Victoria took home the 2018 WLCBF Fan Favourite award for their Nightwatch Coffee Lager. Their beer is brewed by blending a classic light lager with locally made cold brew coffee, resulting in a crisp, clean lager with distinct coffee flavours such as hazelnut, cinnamon, and chocolate notes on the nose and palate.  Four Winds Brewing from Delta, BC won the 2017 Fan Favourite Beer for their Apparition White IPA. (6%, 60 IBU) This hopped-up white ale sings of lush tropical fruits and subtle hints of spice. Fermented with classic Belgian witbier yeast and infused with copious amounts of new world hops for a balanced burst of citrus and pineapple.

Red Collar Brewing from Kamloops BC took home Fan Favourite honours in 2016 for their Dopplebock. This seasonal offering comes out in fall and is eagerly anticipated. It’s a clean German lager (7.7% ABV, 32 IBU) featuring dark roasted malt flavours. With a minimal hop bitterness, the sweet characteristics of this beer are nicely balanced with a very slight hint of alcohol warmth.
